Released soldier tells about Russian captivity

Volodymyr Ivanov is from the south of Mykolaiv. He joined the infantry to defend Ukraine in 2015. He defended Mariupol until 2022 and was taken prisoner on April 4, 2022.

"I was wounded in the head. When I was captured, I was in eight prisons in Russian facilities. I was tortured there: stun guns, broken bones and dog bites. I went through hell," says the soldier.

The man is glad to be alive. His will to live and desire to return home have become a powerful motivation for survival.

"When I was released, I felt so relieved. I realized that tomorrow there would be no more abuse and I could get up in the morning and call my family and friends," Volodymyr stressed.

The POW was returned to Ukraine on September 14, 2024. Today, in Lviv, he is awaiting surgery and undergoing rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the man participates in rallies in support of the captured defenders.

"I survived, and I am very happy about it. Today I am here to support my brothers-in-arms who are there. I want us to be heard and released from this hell as soon as possible," adds the soldier.
